We would like to introduce you to Musicworks, an innovative, not-for-profit company providing music tuition for children in primary and secondary schools in the North East since September 2000. Our aspiration is to widen and enliven the provision of peripatetic music services to schools. We aim to give children the opportunity to learn the musical instrument of their choice with professional, enthusiastic and stimulating teaching enabling them to gain skills which enhance confidence, encourage achievement and give much pleasure.
Although we offer tuition on most instruments, we find that the instruments which frequently appeal more readily to younger children today are keyboards, guitars and drums. These instruments play a prominent role in the contemporary music scene and inspire children who want to imitate and perform like their favourite bands and pop idols. We have therefore decided to focus mainly on teaching these particular instruments, helping to keep music accessible, exciting and at the ‘cutting edge’ for children.
Our services are free to the school and we deal with all administration. Our schools benefit from free demonstrations, workshops, help with musical productions, help with pupils’ GCSE and A Level work and help with school concerts, as well as improving the standards of musicianship within the school.
