Choosing the right guitar:

Six string, nylon strung classical style guitars are ideal for your child to begin lessons on with Musicworks and can cost as little as £40, including a soft case. Depending on the physical size of your child (our teachers can advise) you have the choice of a half size, 3/4 size or full size guitar. Six string steel strung acoustic guitars are also suitable but are generally only available as full size guitars. Yamaha do however, make a rather nice 3/4 size acoustic guitar called the JR2, featured below.  It is also acceptable for your child to begin guitar lessons on an electric guitar. An amplifier is usually required in this instance.

Makes and models of beginner guitars to consider are:

Classical:

Jose Ferrer El Primo 1/2 or 3/4 size (around £60)

Valencia 1/2 or 3/4 size (between £40 and £50)

Yamaha Cs40 3/4 size (around £100) or Yamaha C40 full size (around £110)

Acoustic:

Yamaha F310 full size (between £90 and £110)

Yamaha JR1 and JR2 3/4 size (around £110)

Tanglewood DBTDLXF full size (around £125)
